Coenzyme Q10 appears throughout the human body. It aids metabolic
reactions such as the transformation of food into ATP, the energy
used by the body. Cell mitochondria (the part of cells where energy
is produced) show the greatest concentration of coenzyme Q10 in the
body. Similarly, organs that contain higher amounts of mitochondria
per cell are those which overall have the greatest amount of
coenzyme Q10. These include the heart and the liver.
Coenzyme Q10 deficiency appears to be caused more by the body's
inability to synthesize the nutrient than by a lack of the enzyme in
the diet. Low blood levels are often associated with poor heart
